2:35
Silas Lesnick: The panel has started with a brand-new trailer for FRANKENWEENIE.
2:35
Silas Lesnick: It’s a really cool trailer, stylized to look like a horror film from the 1950’s.
2:36
Silas Lesnick: It also really focuses on the plot of the film beyond the original short and how all the kids in the neighborhood, jealous of Frankenweenie’s return to life, start to bring back their own pets from the dead.
2:37
Silas Lesnick: Tim Burton has taken to the stage and is talking about the decades-in-the-making journey that FRANKENWEENIE has been.
2:37
Silas Lesnick: More clips are coming! Hold on…
2:45
Silas Lesnick: The first clip shows off the elementary school of New Holland
2:46
Silas Lesnick: All the kids are decidedly offbeat and, as Tim Burton has said in the past, they’re all based on specific horror icons.
2:46
Silas Lesnick: The new teacher is an intimidating Russian man (voiced by Martin Landau)
2:47
Silas Lesnick: He explains that he’s replacing the old teacher for the time being.
2:47
Silas Lesnick: “He was hit by lightning!” says Igor.
2:47
Silas Lesnick: The teacher explains — through a strange metaphor about immigration to the US — that lightning does not HIT you
2:48
Silas Lesnick: And he goes through the scientific steps of what happens.
2:48
Silas Lesnick: “But it’s very rare,” says the teacher
2:48
Silas Lesnick: “It’s not,” says one kid, “There’s a lightning storm here almost every night.”
2:49
Silas Lesnick: The kids get into a debate about why the town is so strange and what causes the storms.
2:49
Silas Lesnick: One blames it being built on an abandoned gold mine.
2:49
Silas Lesnick: “I heard it was a graveyard,” says another.
2:49
Silas Lesnick: “It’s where they buried the miners,” the first retorts.
2:49
Silas Lesnick: Another says it’s the windmill in the town that brings evil there.
2:50
Silas Lesnick: A new scene shows Victor and Igor
2:50
Silas Lesnick: He’s made Frankenweenie and Igor wants in
2:51
Silas Lesnick: Igor goes to the pet store and looks at tank of fish (INCREDIBLE animation on the fish)
2:51
Silas Lesnick: “I want to buy one,” he says and then points to a dead, floating one, “THAT one!”
2:51
Silas Lesnick: In his attic Victor and Igor try to bring the goldfish back. It seems the fish has been vaporized, but they realize that it hasn’t: It’s alive again, but invisible.
2:52
Silas Lesnick: Tim Burton takes to the stage and is shocked by a group of fans all dressed like his characters.
2:52
Silas Lesnick: “You all look better than they do in the movie!”
2:53
Silas Lesnick: Someone asked about what Colleen Atwood is like which Burton shot back (obviously joking), “She’s a bitch!”
2:53
Silas Lesnick: The FRANKENWEENIE segment is over. Moving on to…
2:53
Silas Lesnick: OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL!
2:55
Silas Lesnick: They’re introing Sam Raimi with a montage of all his films
2:56
Silas Lesnick: Sam is saying that he loves the side of the exhibit hall floor where they sell old comics.
2:57
Silas Lesnick: He says it’s the story of a selfish man who visits a world of second chances.
2:57
Silas Lesnick: He says the film begins, like the MGM film, in Kansas
2:58
Silas Lesnick: Oz gets caught as an adulterer and is chased out of Kansas in a balloon
2:58
Silas Lesnick: That, of course, brings him to the land of Oz.
2:58
Silas Lesnick: First clip!
3:01
Silas Lesnick: It’s a trailer made specifically for SDCC and begins, like the original film, in black and white in Kansas.
3:02
Silas Lesnick: The cool thing is that the framing is 1.33:1 and, for little moments, the 3D actually crosses out of that frame into the black.
3:02
Silas Lesnick: We see Franco’s Oz in his balloon and, as he gets swept up in a tornado, the color bleeds in and the frame widens.
3:02
ComingSoon.net: EW has posted some pics;
http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20399642_20611436,00.html
3:03
Silas Lesnick: There’s tons of footage of throughout the world of Oz, ultimately ended with just a green witch’s hand coming up on a table.
3:03
Silas Lesnick: Surprise guests Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis have come onstage!
3:04
Silas Lesnick: Kunis is talking about how important it was to use practical sets
3:05
Silas Lesnick: Raimi has just confirmed that his Oldsmobile — famous for cameos in all his films — will, in fact, make an appearance in Oz but not in it’s full form. Part of the engine was turned into the Wizard’s machinery.
3:06
Silas Lesnick: Raimi was asked about his The Shadow project, but confirmed that he’s no longer working on it since they couldn’t nail a script properly.
3:07
Silas Lesnick: Someone is asking whether the film is based on the books or is a prequel to the Victor Fleming film.
3:07
Silas Lesnick: He says that it is based on the books, but that it nods to the film
3:08
Silas Lesnick: Raimi is confirming that he’s not allowed to use the ruby slippers
3:08
Silas Lesnick: (The ruby slippers were unique to the MGM film. The book had silver slippers.)
3:09
Silas Lesnick: “Will we see scarecrow or Tin Man?” someone asks
3:09
Silas Lesnick: No, says Raimi, because it’s about different inhabitants of Oz.
3:11
Silas Lesnick: That’s end of the Oz panel. Moving into…
3:12
Silas Lesnick: WRECK-IT RALPH!
3:13
Silas Lesnick: Director Rich Moore has taken the stage
3:14
Silas Lesnick: They’re going to show ten full minutes of the film.
3:14
Silas Lesnick: Be right back!
3:25
ComingSoon.net: The trailer for Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great and Powerful is now online to watch:
https://comingsoon.preprod.vip.gnmedia.net/news/movienews.php?id=92493
3:26
Silas Lesnick: Moore has just revealed that Skrillex will provide the soundtrack for the Hero’s Duty game within the film.
3:26
Silas Lesnick: Also, Alan Tudyk has signed on to play King Candy, the ruler of the game Sugar Rush — a game that is sort of like the combination of Mario Kart and Canyland.
3:27
Silas Lesnick: The footage begins with John C. Reilly’s Wreck-It Ralph lamenting his existence in narration
3:27
Silas Lesnick: He’s been stuck for 30 years doing the same thing and everyone hating him
3:28
Silas Lesnick: We learn that narration is actually his confession to a group call Bad-Anon, a therapy group for video game villains
3:28
Silas Lesnick: We see Boswer there, a Pac Man ghost, Dr. Robotnik and many more
3:29
Silas Lesnick: There’s a great gag where Bowser does a spit-take and shoots fireballs, complete with classic Mario sound FX
3:29
Silas Lesnick: We learn that all the games are connected through a place called “Game Central Station”
3:29
Silas Lesnick: Any character can leave one game and go to another, but there are customs check points (Ralph gets caught sneaking cherries out of Pac-Man)
3:30
Silas Lesnick: We see video posters on the wall of the station where Sonic the Hedgehog reminds people that, if you die in a game that’s not your own, you can’t regenerate.
3:30
Silas Lesnick: Ralph also runs into a down-on-his-luck Q-Bert, begging on the side of the station. Feeling bad, he gives him a cherry.
3:31
Silas Lesnick: There’s a quick scene inside “Hero’s Duty”, where Fix-It Felix compliments Jane Lynch’s character on her high-definition
3:31
Silas Lesnick: Another bit shows “Sugar Rush” where Sarah Silverman’s character is being picked on for being a glitch
3:31
Silas Lesnick: Ralph shows up to save her, chasing he bullies away
3:32
Silas Lesnick: Silverman’s voice is altered to be high-pitched, but it’s distinctly her
3:32
Silas Lesnick: She and Ralph quickly get off to an antagonistic relationship
3:33
Silas Lesnick: Sarah Silverman and John C. Reilly have come on-stage
3:33
Silas Lesnick: They joke about the Mario Bros. being divas and refusing to appear in the film
3:33
Silas Lesnick: They say there’s one more surprise coming…
3:36
Silas Lesnick: It’s a tease of THE LONE RANGER
3:36
Silas Lesnick: The focus is on the railroad, working a train into the Bruckheimer logo
3:37
Silas Lesnick: A voice explains that the train will change the American west and that it represents a brand-new power
3:37
Silas Lesnick: We see flashes of Tonto and the Ranger with Depp’s voice:
3:38
Silas Lesnick: “There comes a time, kemosabe, when a good man must wear a mask.”
3:38
Silas Lesnick: One of the final shots is Tonto clinging to the bottom of the train and we see “NOW IN PRODUCTION” with the film’s logo.
3:38
Silas Lesnick: And that’s a wrap on the Disney panel!
3:40
ComingSoon.net: Thanks Silas!
