A movie about author Theodore Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, is in the works from the director of Wonder
A film is in the works about the life of Theodore Geisel (1904-1991), otherwise known as Dr. Seuss, is in the works, according to Deadline. The film, about the children’s author responsible for books like The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, will be directed by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder). Carla Hacken will produce through her Paper Pictures.
The script for Seuss was written by Jonathan Stewart and Eyal Podell and will tell the story of Geisel in the 1920s before meeting future wife Helen Palmer, who helps hims become Dr. Seuss. Her sudden illness cripples her and she inspires him to be the author we know today.
Theodore Geisel wrote over 60 children’s books after failing to get his first one, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, published. He also worked as an illustrator and a political cartoonist. He finally published the book in 1937. During WWII, he produced several short films for the United States Army, including Design for Death, for which he won 1947 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
