Following 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fan-favorite composter Hans Zimmer called it quits when it came to tights and capes. After composing the score for all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and co-scoring BvS with Junkie XL, he decided to hang up his cowl.
Now, however, it would seem that he’s breaking out the mask one more time and will provide the score for the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix. While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Collider), star Evan Peters revealed the information (before realizing he perhaps should not have revealed it), saying:
“I think the film is gonna be incredible. Hans Zimmer’s scoring it—I don’t know if I was supposed to say that or not. Simon has surrounded himself with incredible people, and Simon knows this world better than anybody, so it was just cool to see him—he’s so happy and in his element in that world, and also being able to direct and guide everybody in this way. I was very happy for him and I think it’s gonna be great.”
Previous composers to score films in the X-Men franchise include Michael Kamen (X-Men), John Ottman (X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse), John Powell (X-Men: The Last Stand), Harry Gregson-Williams (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class), Marco Beltrami (The Wolverine, Logan), and Junkie XL (Deadpool).
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will bring back much of the cast of the new films, including James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver). Lamar Johnson of The Next Step has joined the cast in a mystery role and the mutant Dazzler will reportedly play a part in the film.
Simon Kinberg is writing and directing the film, marking his directorial debut. He will also produce alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to open in theaters on November 2, 2018.
