As revealed earlier this year, GK Films is planning a big screen version of the hit Broadway show Jersey Boys. Now, Variety reports that Jon Favreau is at the top of the list of directors to helm the project.
Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and their meteoric rise from blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks to one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide all before they were thirty.
With over $1 billion in ticket sales and currently playing worldwide, Jersey Boys opened on Broadway in 2005. Produced by Dodger Theatricals, the Broadway musical is written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and direction by Des McAnuff.
As previously revealed, the feature film will be using much of the same music and lyrics in the stage play, including songs like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.”
Favreau, best known for directing Iron Man and Iron Man 2, most recently helmed Cowboys & Aliens at Universal Pictures. Though he won’t be directing, Favreau can soon be seen reprising his role as Happy Hogan in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.
