Malin Akerman has joined the cast of Randall Miller’s CBGB, Variety reports. She’ll play Debbie Harry, the lead singer of the punk rock band Blondie, in the tale of the famous New York nightclub.
Akerman joins the previously announced Alan Rickman as Hilly Kristal, a man who, for more than three decades, owned and operated the establishment until a rent dispute forced the club to close in 2006. The real-life Kristal tragically died the following year. Rickman’s fellow Harry Potter star Rupert Grint is also attached to the project, playing Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome.
Akerman can next been seen in the similarly music-themed Rock of Ages, hitting theaters on June 15th.
Miller will direct with a script written by himself and Jody Savin. The current plan is to begin production next month.
