With the announcement that original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher is on board for the sequel, director Ridley Scott also revealed a bit more to The Daily Beast.
Yesterday, the filmmakers said that “the much-anticipated project is intended to be a sequel to the renowned original. The filmmakers would reveal only that the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded.”
Scott told the site that he “started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”
Much like Sigourney Weaver in Alien, Noomi Rapace also leads Scott’s Prometheus, which opens in theaters on June 8.
Ridley Scott is next doing The Counselor, but he’s also got the Getrude Bell film in the works with Angelina Jolie attached to star.
About that project, he added that it is “a very interesting period piece of a woman in the 1900s whose tramping ground was very much part of Mesopotamia, which we now know of as Iraq. Shes involved with a person called King Faisal, and she was partly instrumental in seeing him to the throne of Iraq. Shes an important political figure.”
