CBS is developing a Stripes series based on the 1981 movie
CBS is set to develop a series based on the Bill Murray/Harold Ramis film Stripes, according to Deadline. The single-camera comedy based on the 1981 film comes to us from Trevor Moore, Sam Brown and Zach Cregger from Whitest Kids U’Know, Sony Pictures TV and CBS Television Studios.
Ivan Reitman, who directed the 1981 film, is reportedly attached to both direct and executive produce through his Montecito Picture Company. Moore, Brown and Cregger will executive produce with Julius Goldy Sharpe and Tom Pollock, alongside Amie Karp and Peter Fried. Sony Pictures Television will produce in association with CBS Television Studios.
The Stripes adaptation will center on a rebellious outsider who finds his calling when he joins the U.S. Military. Stripes stars Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Ghostbusters), Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day, As Good as It Gets, Ghostbusters), Warren Oates (In the Heat of the Night, The Wild Bunch, Badlands), P. J. Soles (Halloween, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, Carrie), Sean Young (Blade Runner, No Way Out, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective), and John Candy (Home Alone, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Spaceballs), as well as newcomers at the time John Larroquette (Night Court, The John Larroquette Show, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), John Diehl (Point Pleasant, Friday Night Lights, A Strong Collected Spirit), Conrad Dunn (Alien Nation, Death Warrant, Chicago) and Judge Reinhold (Beverly Hills Cop, The Santa Clause, Fast Times at Ridgemont High). Stripes grossed over $85 million during its run.
