Principal Photography Starts on Erotic Thriller Therese

Production has begun on Thérèse, an erotic thriller based on Émile Zola’s scandalous novel, “Thérèse Raquin.” Filming is taking place in Belgrade, Serbia and Budapest, Hungary.

In the film, set in the lower echelons of 1860s Paris, Thérèse Raquin (Elizabeth Olsen), a sexually repressed and beautiful young woman, is trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Camille (Tom Felton of the “Harry Potter” films), by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (Jessica Lange). Therese spends her days confined behind the counter of a small shop and her evenings watching Madame play dominos with an eclectic group. After she meets her husband’s alluring friend, Laurent (Oscar Isaac), she embarks on an illicit affair that leads to tragic consequences.

Rounding out the cast of Thérèse are Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Trainspotting), John Kavanagh (HBO’s “The Tudors”), Mackenzie Crook (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), and Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids).

Directed and written by Charlie Stratton, Thérèse is produced by Mickey Liddell (The Grey), CEO of LD Entertainment, and William Horberg of Wonderful Films (The Kite Runner, Cold Mountain). Michael Zelman and Richard Sharkey serve as the film’s executive producers. LD Entertainment will also distribute the film.

The film’s creative team includes cinematographer Florian Hoffmeister (The Deep Blue Sea), production designer Uli Hanisch (Cloud Atlas), and costume designer Pierre-Yves Gayraud (Albert Nobbs). The editor is Paul Tothill (Atonement) and the composer is Oscar-winner Gabriel Yared (In the Land of Blood and Honey).

Alex Walton, Exclusive Media’s President of International Sales and Distribution, is handling international sales and will be actively selling the title at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
