Mindy Kaling will write and executive produce a Four Weddings and a Funeral anthology series at Hulu
Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project) is set to executive produce and write an hour-long anthology series inspired by the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu, according to Deadline. Kaling is the executive producer and star of the TV series The Mindy Project, which is currently in its sixth and final season on the streaming service. The Four Weddings and a Funeral project will also be executive produced by Matt Warburton as well as Richard Curtis, who wrote the film, Jonathan Prince and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, which co-produced the film, and 3 Arts’ Howard Klein. MGM Television (who owns the movie rights) will produce with Universal TV.
According to the site, Kaling and Warburton are working on two scripts and we should know about a straight-to-series order by early next year. Four Weddings and a Funeral will follow a group of friends through their lives through the events that bring them together. Each season will reportedly follow a different story arc. They may have different characters in a different location for each season as well.
The 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral was directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and starred Andie MacDowell, Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott Thomas, James Fleet, Simon Callow, John Hannah, Charlotte Coleman, David Bower, Corin Redgrave and Rowan Atkinson. The film was made in six weeks and became the highest-grossing British film in history at the time of its release. It made more than $245.7 million and received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay and won the BAFTA Award for Best Film, Best Direction, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Hugh Grant and Best Actress in a Supporting role for Scott Thomas.
