Oscar winner Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Sully, Bridge of Spies) is set to lead the sci-fi film Bios, a hot spec script written by newcomer Craig Luck and producer Ivor Powell (Blade Runner, Alien), according to Variety.
According to the trade, the film “follows a robot that lives on a post-apocalyptic earth. Built to protect the life of his dying creator’s beloved dog, it learns about life, love, friendship, and the meaning of human life.” Hanks will play said ailing creator.
Bios will be directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Repo Men, Game of Thrones) and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies, the Carrie remake). Several studios, including Legendary, Warner Bros. and Studio 8, are in negotiations to to try to make the film, which plans to take advantage of an early 2018 shooting date when Hanks is free.
Hanks will next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s December Oscar contender The Post, and will also pen the screenplay for and star in the World War II Navy drama Greyhound.
