Discussed for development as a feature film last week at DFW.com, writer/director David Lowery is expanding his award-winning short film Ain’t Them Bodies Saints into a feature film. Today, Deadline adds that Casey Affleck, Ben Foster and Rooney Mara are all circling roles.
Premiering at Sundance earlier this year, Lowrey’s short film was officially described as follows:
“Aint Them Bodies Saints” tells the story of an outlaw who, in the 1970s, escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas countryside to reunite with his wife and the daughter he never met. Along the way, however, his past starts to catch up with him.
Affleck can soon be found providing a voice in ParaNorman and starring opposite Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana and more in Out of the Furnace. Foster just starred in Contraband and recently finished production on Kill Your Darlings. Bodies, meanwhile, marks the third project this week for Rooney Mara, who most recently headlined The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She’s now said to be eyeing Spike Jonze’s next, still-untitled film as well as the leading role in the period novel adaptation Brooklyn.
Although the short film version of Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is not there, you can watch a number of Lowery’s short films at his official site.
