Josh Duhamel Finds Safe Haven

First announced last summer, another Nicholas Sparks adaptation is on the way, this time from My Life as a Dog director Lasse Hallström. Now Variety reports that the project, Safe Haven, may have found its male lead in Transformers star Josh Duhamel.

Sparks’ previous books have been made into such hit films as The Notebook, The Last Song, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John and, most recently, The Lucky One. Safe Haven is described as being a love story infused with suspense and discovery. When a young woman escaping her past moves to a small North Carolina town, and falls for a loving widowed father, he heals her heart, and helps her escape the danger that threatens her.

Duhamel will likely be confirmed as soon as the project lands a female lead. It is scheduled for release on February 8, 2013.

Alongside Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Sparks, the film is being produced by Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Relativity’s Tooley will serve as executive producer with a screenplay by Dana Stevens (City of Angels).
