Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon to direct MGM’s animated Addams Family film
Conrad Vernon, who directed the raunchy animated comedy Sausage Party, is on board to helm MGM’s upcoming animated take on The Addams Family, according to THR. The film will be produced by Vernon, Gail Berman from The Jackal Group and Alex Schawrtz. Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House) wrote the screenplay based on the cartoons from Charles Addams, with revisions from Matt Lieberman.
Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi will executive produce and MGM’s Tabitha Shick will oversee the Addams Family animated feature. The CG animation work is happening at Cinesite Studios in Vancouver.
Comprised of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Thing, The Addams Family ran as a comic strip from 1938 until 1988 and have appeared in countless animated series and specials. The strip was previously adapted into three live-action films, including The Addams Family in 1991, Addams Family Values in 1993, and Addams Family Reunion in 1998. The films starred Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams, Raúl Juliá as Gomez Addams, Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams, and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester.
Vernon is known for co-directing Shrek 2, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Monsters vs. Aliens. Sausage Party, which Vernon co-directed by Greg Tiernan, starred the voices of Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek. He co-directed from a script by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill. Vernon has also done voice work in a number of films. He was the voice of Toilet Paper, Sauerkraut and Catcall Sausage in Sausage Party. He was the voice of Eugene in The Boss Baby.
