Walt Disney Pictures has announced that its live-action Sleeping Beauty re-telling, Maleficent, will hit theaters on March 14, 2014.
Angelina Jolie is set to star with Robert Stromberg, who previously served as a production designer on Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Disney’s upcoming, Oz the Great and Powerful, making his directing debut.
The live-action film explores the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disneys animated classic Sleeping Beauty. Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Alice in Wonderland) wrote the script. Maleficent is produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland and Oz the Great and Powerful).
