Drew Goddard to write and direct the X-Force film
Deadline reports that the long in-development X-Force film has finally found a writer and director in none other than Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods)!
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will certainly be at the center of the film alongside Josh Brolin as Cable. Zazie Beetz as Domino could also appear in the film since her character has a history of appearing in X-Force comics, but it remains to be seen what other mutants will be part of the team. There are plenty to choose from as X-Force has included the likes of Wolverine, Psylocke, Archangel, Bishop, Colossus, Fantomex, Sunspot, Warpath, and many more.
Producer Simon Kinberg previously said about the film: “They’re like the Black Ops of the X-Men. They’re much darker and have an R-rated decibel. There are other X-Men characters coming into X-Force at different times in the comic, but it’s separate from X-Men.”
This isn’t the first time that Goddard has been embroiled in superhero madness, having previously worked on Marvel’s Daredevil for Marvel and Netflix and also developing The Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures before the Spider-Man/Marvel Studios deal.
Goddard’s next film is the upcoming Bad Times at the El Royale, which he will write and direct, and Deadline notes that he’s already completed the script for the X-Force film and will begin it once he completes “El Royale.”
An official release date for X-Force has not been set, but 20th Century Fox has previously set many placeholder dates for “Untitled Marvel movies” ranging from February 14, 2019 to June 7, 2019, November 22, 2019, March 13, 2020, June 26, 2020, and October 2, 2020.
