Martin Campbell has landed the director’s chair on The Dive, Deadline reports. Originally planned for James Cameron to direct, the Avatar helmer will still produce alongside Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini.
J. Michael Straczynski (who has worked with Cameron on the proposed upcoming remake of Forbidden Planet) will adapt the true story of Fracisco “Pipin” Ferreras and his wife, Audrey Mestre. Together, the pair broke records as freedivers (diving without the use of breathing equipment) until Mestre tragically lost her life during a 2002 dive.
Campbell is best known as the director of Casino Royale and most recently helmed the DC Comics adaptation, Green Lantern.
