Anya Taylor-Joy in talks to re-team with The Witch director on Nosferatu remake
Actress Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) is in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming Nosferatu remake, according to Variety. Robert Eggers, who directed Taylor-Joy in the 2015 film The Witch, will both direct and write the remake of the 1922 classic horror film for Studio 8. Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus will produce.
The 1922 silent horror film was directed by F.W. Murnau and written by Henrick Galeen. Nosferatu starred Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok and was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s considered an iconic horror film and follows the story of Count Orlok from Transylvania who is trying to buy a house in Germany, where he becomes enamored of the real-estate agent’s wife. Werner Herzog remade the film in 1979 as Nosferatu the Vampyre. In 2000, the film Shadow of the Vampire, starring John Maklovich, Cary Elwes, Eddie Izzard and Willem Dafoe, was a dark comic fictional take on the making of the 1922 film.
Anya Taylor-Joy hit the scene with The Witch and has recently been seen in films like Morgan, Barry, Thoroughbred and this year’s Split alongside James McAvoy. She is currently filming Josh Boone’s X-Men: The New Mutants where she’ll play Illyana Rasputin / Magik. She’s also got the Split and Unbreakable sequel Glass on the way, starring McAvoy, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. She played a small, uncredited role in the 2014 film Vampire Academy.
