Jack OConnell and Alice Englert are in final negotiations to star in the supernatural love story Beautiful Creatures, Alcon Entertainment announced today. The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Viola Davis had signed on for the book-to-screen adaptation.
Based on the first of a five-novel series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Creatures will be written and directed by Richard LaGravenese.
In the first book, high-school student Ethan Wate meets and becomes bewitched by Lena Duchannes, a 16-year-old whose family has moved to the small South Carolina town where he lives. The two must confront a curse that has haunted her family for generations as she comes to grips with her powers.
O’Connell is best known for roles in the UK films This is England and Harry Brown while Englert will star in the upcoming Singularity.
Erwin Stoff (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) will produce along with Kosove and Johnson (The Blind Side, The Book of Eli) and Molly Smith (Something Borrowed, P.S. I Love You).
Filming will begin in April in and around New Orleans.
