In an announcement sure to delight fans of the stage version, Broadway World has confirmed that Samantha Barks will reprise her role as Eponine in Tom Hooper’s film version of Les Miserables. She joins a cast that includes Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried.
In turn based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, the hit Broadway musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg opened in 1985, beginning one of the longest runs for a musical ever. Set against the backdrop of the 19th Century French rebellion, the musical has been adapted for the screen by William Nicholson.
Barks previously played Eponine on the London stage and is pictured below in that production’s costume:
