Walt Disney Pictures has found its director for the new Maleficent film, to which Tim Burton was previously attached, and it’s Robert Stromberg.
Stromberg was the production designer on Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Disney’s upcoming Oz The Great and Powerful. He’s also worked as visual effects supervisor for “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Pacific.” He won Oscars for Art Direction for Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and was nominated for visual effects for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
Maleficent, which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Angelina Jolie, will be his directorial debut. Joe Roth is producing.
