June 6, 2017: Here’s what’s hitting Blu-ray, Digital HD and DVD this week
Celebrating the film’s 75th anniversary, Walt Disney Home Entertainment releases Bambi on Blu-ray and DVD this week as part of their Signature Collection line. CS helped celebrate the monumental anniversary by sitting down with original voice actors Peter Behn and Donald Dunagan. If you missed the video last week, you can check it out in the player below!
Bambi isn’t the only Disney film coming home June 6 as this week also sees the home release of Bill Condon’s recent live-action Beauty and the Beast . Other recent big screen releases coming to Blu-ray and DVD this week include Gore Verbinski’s psychological thriller A Cure for Wellness , Amma Asante’s historical biopic A United Kingdom (starring David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike), and Mark Pellington’s comedy drama The Last Word (starring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried).
Other highlights this week include Arnold Schwarzenegger in the dramatic thriller Aftermath and Michelle Rodriguez in the genderbent actioner The Assignment , the latest from the legendary Walter Hill (The Driver , The Warriors ). If a foreign actioner is more your style, though, June 6 also brings home the recent Chinese thriller Sky on Fire .
Celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary, Ernest R. Dickerson’s inner city crime drama Juice gets a new special edition.
Warner Archive turns its attention to Sam Peckinpah with the first ever Blu-ray release of The Ballad of Cable Hogue , the director’s immediate follow-up to The Wild Bunch .
The Criterion Collection delivers an upgrade this week, bringing Kenji Mizoguchi’s 1953 romantic ghost story Ugetsu to Blu-ray.
Shout! Factory has two new additions to the recent Shout! Select line. Look for Dan Stevens in the recent drama The Ticket and, hitting home video for the first time with its original music, the Hunter S. Thompson biopic Where the Buffalo Roam , starring Bill Murray as the good doctor himself.
On the small screen, June 6 brings to Blu-ray and DVD the first half of Doctor Who ‘s tenth modern series as well as the first seasons of both HBO ‘s The Young Pope and Syfy ‘s Van Helsing . There are also several series getting complete series sets this week, including the Ted Danson sitcom Becker , the fantastical drama Joan of Arcadia , the FBI procedural Numb3rs , the classic motorcycle cop series CHiPs and the complete Father Dowling Mysteries .
This week also sees a number of films make their 4K debut. Look for the 2000 A.D. adaptation Dredd , the Academy Award-winning science fiction tale Ex Machina and the crime drama Snitch , starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson .
