TWC-Dimension announced today that principal photography has begun in Atlanta, Georgia, on the family comedy The War with Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook, Raging Bull), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), Rob Riggle (How To Be A Latin Lover, True Memoirs of an International Assassin), Christopher Walken (Jersey Boys, Stepford Wives), and Cheech Marin (Machete, Grindhouse). Joining the already-announced cast are Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon), Jane Seymour (Sandy Wexler) and Faizon Love (Couple’s Retreat).
Peter (Oakes Fegley) and his Grandpa (Robert De Niro) used to be very close, but when Grandpa Jack moves in with the family, Peter is forced to give up his most prized possession, his bedroom. Peter will stop at nothing to get his room back, scheming with friends to devise a series of pranks to drive him out. But Grandpa doesn’t give up easily and before long, it’s an all out war! This coming-of-age family comedy is based on the bestselling book by Robert Kimmel Smith and is directed by Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hop).
The War with Grandpa was adapted for the screen by Tom J. Astle & Matt Ember and Dave Johnson, produced by Marvin Peart (The Perfect Holiday, Mob Wives), Rosa Peart (Life on the Line) and Phillip Glasser (Little Savages) for Marro Films. Executive Producer for Marro Films is Tre Peart. Co-producers are Mandy Spencer-Phillips (Life on the Line) and Alan Steinman (You Can’t Have It) for Marro Films. Matthew Signer, Keith Levine and James Allen will oversee the project for TWC-Weinstein, which acquired the title for US distribution.
Greg Gardiner (Barbershop: The Next Cut) is the Director of Photography, John Collins (Division 19, Some Kind of Beautiful) is the Production Designer and Costume Design is by Christopher Hargadon (A Family Man, Mr. Margorium’s Wonder Emporium).
The War with Grandpa is scheduled to be released on October 20, 2017.
