Universal Dates New Robert Zemeckis Movie, Moves Doctor Dolittle

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures today announced a release date for the new Robert Zemeckis movie. The film will hit theaters on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, the same date that Disney just moved Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 to.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Forrest GumpFlightCast Away) directs Steve Carell in the moving true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit.

The screenplay for the untitled Robert Zemeckis movie was written by Caroline Thompson and Zemeckis, while Oscar-winning producer Steve Starkey (Forrest Gump, Flight) and Jack Rapke (Cast Away, Flight) of Zemeckis’ Universal-based ImageMovers banner produce alongside the director. It is executive produced by Jeff Malmberg, who directed the riveting 2010 documentary upon which this film is based, and Jackie Levine.

Universal Pictures also said today that the untitled Doctor Dolittle movie will move from May 24, 2019, to Friday, April 12, 2019. An untitled DisneyToon Studios movie is also scheduled for that new date.

Robert Downey Jr. brings a signature new take on a very particular genius in the untitled Doctor Dolittle movie, a sweeping adventure directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan. Based on the enduring tales imagined by Hugh Lofting, the epic journey will be produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films (Alice in WonderlandMaleficent), alongside Susan Downey (Sherlock Holmes franchise, The Judge) for Team Downey. Gaghan wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay from an earlier draft by Tom Shepherd.
