Vertical and DIRECTV Nab Rights to William H. Macy’s The Layover

Vertical Entertainment and DIRECTV have won the rights to the William H. Macy-directed The Layover

The rights to William H. Macy’s road trip sex comedy The Layover have been acquired by Vertical Entertainment and DIRECTV, according to Deadline. The film is directed by Macy and stars Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning ThiefSan Andreas), Kate Upton (The Other WomanTower Heist), Matt Barr (Hatfields & McCoysSleepy Hollow), Matt Jones (Red StateMom), Kal Penn (HouseDesignated Survivor), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time MachineWarm Bodies), and Molly Shannon (Hotel TransylvaniaNever Been Kissed). The film will premiere on DIRECTV on August 3, 2017 and on Vertical Entertainment in September.

The Layover is written by David Hornsby and Lance Krall. The two have collaborated in the past on the popular TV series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for which Hornsby was the writer, executive producer, and co-star.

Daddario and Upton will play a pair of lifelong best friends who decide to avoid their problems by taking a vacation only to find that their plane has been rerouted due to a hurricane warning. To make matters worse, the two friends find themselves in a hilarious battle for the same guy (Barr) during an extended layover in St. Louis.

Executive producers include Patricia Cox (who previously worked with Macy on his directorial debut, Rudderless) and Jason Cloth of Creative Wealth Media Finance.

Macy is known for his acting work in the Showtime series ShamelessERJurassic Park III and Fargo, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He’s directed Rudderless, the TV movie Lip Service and an episode of Shameless. He’s won two Emmy Awards (for Lead Actor and Writing for a Miniseries or a Movie) for Door to Door.
