Five More Join The Company You Keep

The cast of Robert Redford’s adatpation of the Neil Gordon novel, The Company You Keep, has added five more. Variety reports that Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, and newcomer Jackie Evancho are all set to star.

The novel, which is being adapted by Lem Dobbs (Dark City, The Limey, The Score), was first published in 2003 and is officially described as follows:

When Jason Sinai, one of the last Vietnam-era fugitives still wanted on murder charges for a robbery gone wrong in 1974, encounters a young newspaper reporter in search of a story, he must abandon years of safe underground life for the dangerous life of the road — traveling across American and deep into his past. Set against the rise and fall of the radical anti-war group the Weather Underground, “The Company You Keep” is a sweeping American saga about sacrifice, the ecstatic righteousness of youth, and the tension between political ideals and family loyalties. It is a vidid re-creation of lives lived underground — of battle-scarred veterans, ideologues, profiteers, criminals and bystanders.

In addition to directing, Redford will play the part of Sinai (who also uses the alias James Grant) with Shia LaBeouf appearing as the young, Albany-based reporter. Brit Marling, Nick Nolte, Julie Christie, Richard Jenkins, Susan Sarandon, Stephen Root and Stanley Tucci are also attached.

Though the novel is written through a series of fictional e-mails, it is currently unknown whether Redford will embrace a similarly high-concept filmic approach.
