Johnny Depp Plans Dr. Seuss Biopic

Johnny Depp has plans to bring the life of Dr. Seuss (the pen name of Theodore Geisel) to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter has word that the star will produce a biopic of the famous children’s book author and could end up staring as the man himself.

Set up at Universal Pictures through Illumination Entertainment and Depp’s own Infinitum Nihil, the Seuss biopic will be written by Keith Bunin, best known for his work on “In Treatment”.

Illumination launched with the 2010 release of Despicable Me and branched out into live action with this year’s Hop. Previously, the company’s founder, Chris Meledandri, produced the Seuss adaptation Horton Hears a Who! through 20th Century Fox and soon will release another take on a Seuss property with next year’s The Lorax. Illumination is also set to work with Depp’s frequent artistic partner, Tim Burton, on a stop-motion version of The Addams Family. While unconfirmed, it’s quite likely that Depp would provide a voice for that project, having played the lead in Burton’s last five films.

Whether or not the Seuss project will feature any animation remains to be seen.
