Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie joins the upcoming sci-fi film Darkest Minds
Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie is set to join the upcoming sci-fi thriller Darkest Minds, according to THR. The film will be based on the YA novel “The Darkest Minds” (2012) by Alexandra Bracken. Fox is set to adapt the novel, which has three sequels. The film stars Amandla Stenberg (Everything, Everything, Sleepy Hollow) as well as Mandy Moore (This Is Us), and Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda series) will make her live-action directorial debut. The film will be produced by Shawn Levy for 21 Laps.
Darkest Minds is set in an alternate America where a pandemic has killed most people under 20 years old. The film is the story of “teens with superpowers who are taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.” Christie will play, “a bounty hunter of fugitive teens who takes immense pleasure in her vicious job.” Stenberg plays Ruby Daly, “a 16-year old with telekinetic powers who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.”
Bracken is known for the Darkest Minds series, as well as writing “Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farmboy,” a novelization of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. She’s also written two novels for her “Passengers” series.
Christie is, of course, known for playing the brave Brienne of Tarth on the HBO series Game of Thrones. She also played Imperial soldier Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She is set to reprise the role in the upcoming sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will hit theaters on December 15, 2017. Are you guys interested in Darkest Minds?
