It’s been some time since we last heard an update on Area 52, the feature film adaptation of the Image comic book series. Now, Deadline reports that Summit Entertainment has stepped in and taken the screen rights.
Published in 2001, the four-issue miniseries told the story of a secret storage facility in Antarctica that houses the alien technology that Area 51 is no longer studying. The lead character is an army nurse who must save the day after a mercenary attack unleashes a fantastic terror.
The RED and Transformers: Dark of the Moon producing team of Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce alongside JC Spink.
Originally, the film was to be directed by Steven C. Miller with a script from Jack Phillips, based on the Brian Haberlin comic. Now it appears that they’ll be working from a new draft with a director yet to be announced.
