Dakota Fanning has singed on to play the title role in Effie, a biopic of Euphemia “Effie” Gray scripted by Emma Thompson. Fanning joins Greg Wise and Tom Sturridge for the 19th century period drama.
The subject of one of history’s most famous love triangles, Gray was married to art critic John Ruskin (Wise) in 1846 but, after Ruskin failed to consumate the marriage after five years, Gray had it annulled and instead married Ruskin’s protégé, painter John Everett Millais (Sturridge).
The production is also expected to include Derek Jacobi and Julie Walters as Ruskin’s parents, John James Ruskin and Margaret Cox while Thompson will play Lady Elizabeth Eastlake with Edward Fox likely for the role of her husband, Sir Charles Eastlake.
Filming is expected to begin this October in London, Scotland and Venice.
