Hayley Atwell, Alexa Davalos and Rosamund Pike are said to be the three names on the short list for playing the female lead in Christopher McQuarrie’s One Shot. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, saying that a decision could be reached sometime this weekend.
The film, which has Tom Cruise attached as Jack Reacher, is based on the series of novels by Lee Child, which focuses on that character. “One Shot” is the ninth book in the series and is described as follows:
Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.
And sure enough, exmilitary investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shootera trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not rightand soon the slam-dunk case explodes.
Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunningand then beat him shot for shot.
Atwell is fresh off the success of Captain America: The First Avenger, where she starred as Peggy Carter. Davalos recently played Andromeda in 2010’s Clash of the Titans, a role that Pike, oddly enough, will take over for next year’s sequel, Wrath of the Titans.
McQuarrie, who previously directed The Way of the Gun, co-wrote the screenplay for Valkyrie, which Cruise starred in.
