Legendary horror actor Robert Englund to get back into Freddy Krueger costume in Nightmares in the Makeup Chair
After seeing otherwise awesome actor Jackie Earle Haley get all burned and rubbery in the milky A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, hardcore Freddy fans have been dreaming of seeing the inimitable founding Freddy father himself, actor Robert Englund, don the goop once more on screen. So far, their prayers have gone unanswered. Until now.
Today, ye olde internet went gaga with the news that Englund will indeed return to the role that made him famous in a new documentary, Nightmares in the Makeup Chair. Entertainment Weekly dropped the news this morning that director Mike Kerz is helming the film, which sees Englund flashing back on his decades of playing the character, while FX legend Robert Kurtzman slaps on the slop once more.

“Nightmares in the Makeup Chair is my love letter to the Nightmare on Elm Street series and to practical makeup,” says Englund in a statement. “I’ve always been in awe of the multi-talented makeup effects artists. From sketching to sculpting, they realize the design. Then to the fine precision of the molding and the manufacturing of the makeup appliances which are nearly paper thin. And then, the application process where I sit in the makeup chair and I become their living canvas as they glue me in and paint the appliances. This documentary not only captures their talent, but I think it might inspire a new generation of practical effects artists. I was happy to become Freddy once again to share the makeup process with the fans.”
Nightmares in the Makeup Chair is aiming for a high profile festival premiere later this year, with a theatrical release and a coffee table book tie-in to follow. Go to the official site for more and watch the teaser below…
