Tom Holland Joins Daisy Ridley in Chaos Walking Movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, newly-minted Spider-Man actor Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming) is set to join Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII) in Lionsgate‘s Chaos Walking movie. Holland will play the male lead of Todd Hewlitt, a boy who discovers a girl named Viola (Ridley) in a world where a germ has supposedly killed all women.

The big screen adaptation of author Patrick Ness‘ young adult trilogy will be directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), with the post-apocalyptic tale officially described as follows:

Todd Hewitt is the last boy in Prentisstown. But Prentisstown isn’t like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else’s thoughts in a constant, overwhelming, never-ending Noise. There is no privacy. There are no secrets. Or are there? Just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd unexpectedly stumbles upon a spot of complete silence. Which is impossible. Prentisstown has been lying to him. And now he’s going to have to run…

Robert Zemeckis was originally attached to direct an adaptation back in late 2013. He was planning to focus on the first book in the trilogy, “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” with Charlie Kaufman (AnomalisaSynecdoche, New York) providing the screenplay. The most recent draft for the Chaos Walking movie, however, hails from Money Monster scribe Jamie Linden.

Doug Davison (who worked with Liman on next year’s Tom Cruise-starrer Mena) and Alli Shearmur (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cinderella) are producing Chaos Walking with Zemeckis and his ImageMovers’ partner Jack Rapke remains on board as producer.

The Chaos Walking movie will go into production next year. Check back for updates on the project as they become available.
