Tom Holland is in talks to join Benedict Cumberbatch in The Current War

While Marvel fans speculate as to whether or not we’ll be seeing their super-powered alter egos connect in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, it seems that Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) are planning to team-up for a very different war. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland is now in talks to join Cumberbatch in The Current War, which has Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directing.

The Current War was scripted by Michael Mitnick and had the distinction of landing on the 2011 Black List of “unproduced” screenplays with the following logline:

Based on the true story of the race between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to develop a practical system of electricity and sell their respective inventions to the country and the world.

Cumberbatch is playing the part of Thomas Edison with Holland up for the role of Edison’s assistant. The Current War cast will also feature Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, The Night Before) as Westinghouse, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Westinghouse’s wife and Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, X-Men: First Class) as Nikolai Tesla.
