The Dark Knight Rises in Newark?

Though production is already underway on multiple continents, The Dark Knight Rises‘ production team may be eyeing a new North American city for certain sequences. Cory Booker, the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey tweeted the news earlier today:

“Met with the producer and studio team for the next Batman Movie,” he wrote, “Great people! They hope to film scenes in Nwk. Holy Brick City Batman! POW!”

He followed up his tweet with the joke that he was interested in cameoing as Nightwing in the Warner Bros. production.

“They just smiled politely & looked at their watches,” he added.

The film, which will end Christopher Nolan’s take on the Batman franchise, features the return of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Nestor Carbonell, along with roles for Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Alon Aboutboul, Burn Gorman, Diego Klattenhoff, Brett Cullen and Chris Ellis. It is set for release on July 20, 2012.
