Three Stars Have Read for the Han Solo Female Lead

Zoe Kravitz, Naomi Scott and Tessa Thompson have read for the Han Solo female lead

As casting continues on Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm‘s second Star Wars Story film, Variety is reporting that three actresses have just read for the Han Solo female lead. According to the trade, Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road), Naomi Scott (Terra Nova, Lemonade Mouth) and Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok) have all read for the undisclosed role. It is also suggested that Donald Glover remains the frontrunner to play Lando Calrissian in the film, although no official casting has as of yet been made outside of setting Blue Jasmine and Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich in the title role.

Although the Han Solo female lead is currently a mystery, it is a possibility that the role in question is that of Sana Starros. A former cohort of Han Solo’s, Starros made her debut in Marvel’s Star Wars comic book series, initially claiming to be Solo’s wife.

The screenplay for the Han Solo movie is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. It has also been confirmed that Chewbacca will also be a featured character in the film and, while unconfirmed, it is likely that The Force Awakens‘ Joonas Suotamo will reprise the role.

Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the Han Solo movie will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, meanwhile, hits theaters December 16, 2016.

Who would you like to see play the Han Solo female lead? Do you want Sana to make the transition to the big screen or should the role be a new character altogether? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
