Suspiria Remake Adds Chloe Grace Moretz

The Suspiria remake adds Chloe Grace Moretz

According to Variety, Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, The EqualizerNeighbors 2: Sorority Rising) is set to join Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive) in Frenesy Film Company and Mythology Entertainment’s Suspiria remake. No stranger to the genre, she has previously starred in the horror remakes Let Me In, Dark Shadows and Carrie.

The redo of Dario Argento’s 1977 classic Suspiria has been in development as far back as 2008. Producer Luca Guadagnino, who directed Swinton and Johnson in last year’s crime drama A Bigger Splash, took over directing duties in 2015. Johnson would presumably take the Jessica Harper role of a ballerina who attends a prestigious dance academy only to learn it is a front for a coven of modern-day witches.

“The film by Dario Argento was a very indicative moment of growing up for me because I saw it when I was 14,” said Guadagnino. “I think it changed me forever. I was obsessed [with Argento] through all my adolescence. [My version] is going to be set in Berlin in 1977. It’s going to be about the mother and the concept of motherhood and about the uncompromising force of motherhood. It’s going to be about finding your inner voice – the title is very evocative on these grounds.”

David Kajganich is penning the script based on the ’77 screenplay by Argento and Dario Nicoladi. Guadagnino will produce Suspiria alongside Brad Fischer, Kajganich, Francesco Melzi d’Eril, Gabriele Moratti, William Sherak, and Silvia Venturini Fendi. Mythology’s James Vanderbilt, First Sun’s Marco Morabito Paul Deason, and Carlo Antone will executive produce, with filming expected to begin this October in Italy and Hungary.

Moretz will next be seen opposite Catherine Keener and Ansel Elgort in Sacha Gervasi’s drama November Criminals.
