Ben Affleck won’t be able to play Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, says Deadline.
The Australian shoot for Luhrmann’s film conflicts with Affleck’s next directorial project, Argo. The political thriller is based on a Wired magazine article about the Tehran hostage crisis and will be produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov.
For The Great Gatsby, Luhrmann has set Leonardo DiCaprio to play Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan to play Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire for the role of Nick Carraway. Isla Fisher is in talks to play Myrtle, and the production is now said to be looking at Australian actors for Tom because it helps the film’s financial situation.
