Less than two weeks after news broke that Walt Disney Pictures would not be moving forward with Joseph Kosinski’s science fiction project, Horizons, comes word that Universal Pictures may be stepping in to produce instead.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, also suggesting that Tom Cruise is still attached to star.
The movie, which was recently retitled from it’s original “Oblivion,” takes place in a future where humanity lives in the clouds, thanks to an irradiated Earth. When the lead character, a repairman named Jak, finds a woman in a crashed ship, his whole world view comes into question.
Kosinski made his directing debut with last year’s TRON: Legacy. He is also still expected to work with Disney on a remake of the studio’s The Black Hole. Assuming development on Horizons goes smoothly, though, the aim is begin production on it this October.
