Shine Pictures has optioned the film rights to screenwriter Steve Knight’s screenplay Hummingbird, reports Variety. The project will mark Knight’s debut as a director.
Hummingbird is being financed by New Regency Prods. and will be distributed worldwide by 20th Century Fox.
Hummingbird is described as “a thriller whose central character is an ex-special services soldier turned criminal.”
Shooting is expected to start this fall.
Knight said, “I believe the story is timely and the characters are drawn from a city full of broken lives and sudden opportunities. It is about redemption and love in a rarely seen urban underworld, and even the romance is forbidden.”
Knight’s credits include Clash of the Titans 2, Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises.
