Variety reports that Liam Neeson’s cameo as a Bangkok tattoo artist in The Hangover Part II has been cut. Actor/writer/director Nick Cassavetes has been re-cast in the role that was originally envisioned for Mel Gibson.
Director Todd Phillips told the trade that he cut the scene that immediately followed Neeson’s cameo, so if he had left the cameo in, the following minutes apparently wouldn’t have made sense.
Instead, Phillips wanted to reshoot the cameo scene to make it fit, but Neeson is already shooting Clash of the Titans 2 and was not available.
“We were in a complete time crunch so I called up Nick and asked if he would do the part,” Phillips said. “He came in and crushed it and that is the scene that you will ultimately see in the film.”
The Hangover Part II opens in theaters on May 26.
