Deadline reports that Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless, Divergent) will direct Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man, Ride Along) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo, “Breaking Bad”) in The Weinstein Company’s upcoming remake of the hit 2012 French comedy-drama The Intouchables.
Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn, Woman in Gold) was previously in talks to direct the film from a screenplay adaptation by Paul Feig (Spy, Ghostbusters). Burger will direct from a new version of the script by Jon Hartmere. Filming is expected to start on January 15 in New York.
The original Intouchables (see photos below), starring François Cluzet and Omar Sy, was about a wealthy quadriplegic who hires a street-wise minority from the projects as his caretaker. Written and directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, it grossed over $425 million in theaters worldwide in 2012.
Burger has also been writing Bride of Frankenstein, which has had Angelina Jolie circling to star.
