The Aftermath Cast: Scott Free Sets Stars on Post WWII Drama

Jason Clarke, Keira Knightley and Alexander Skarsgard are set to star together in the post WWII drama The Aftermath

The Aftermath cast is coming together today as Variety reports that Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Imitation Game) and Alexander Skarsgard (The Legend of Tarzan, Battleship) are set to headline the upcoming Scott Free Productions film. It is also being reported that Fox Searchlight Pictures is in talks to produce The Aftermath with James Kent (Testament of Youth) set to helm.

The Aftermath adapts Rhidian Brook‘s 2013 bestseller, officially described as follows:

Hamburg, 1946. While thousands wander the rubble, lost and homeless, Colonel Lewis Morgan, charged with overseeing the rebuilding of this devastated city and the de-Nazification of its defeated people, is stationed in a grand house on the River Elbe. He is waiting for the arrival of his wife Rachael–still grieving for their eldest son, one of the war’s many casualties–and their only surviving son, Edmund. But rather than force the owners of the house, a German widower and his rebellious daughter, out onto the streets, Lewis insists that the two families live together. In this charged atmosphere, both parents and children will be forced to confront their true selves as enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal, to their deepest desires, their fiercest loyalties, and the transforming power of forgiveness.

Race scribes Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel are adapting Brooks’ novel with Ridley Scott attached to produce.

When The Aftermath was published domestically, publisher Knopf Doubleday prepared a teaser that establishes the story’s period setting. You can check it out for yourself in the player below.
