Variety says that Sam Claflin (upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) and Alicia Vikander are in negotiations to play the lead roles of Tom and Alice in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ The Seventh Son.
The trade adds that Jeff Bridges is in talks to play role of the Spook and Julianne Moore is close to a deal to play a witch.
The Sergei Bodrov-directed film is an adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s children’s book, first in a six-part series (known internationally as “The Wardstone Chronicles”), about a 13-year-old boy who learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook.
The series tells the story of Thomas J. Ward (Claflin), the seventh son of a seventh son, born in the 1700’s with supernatural abilities and who furthers his training with the help of a learned “Spook” (Bridges).
The movie was originally titled The Spook’s Apprentice. Alex Pettyfer to Jennifer Lawrence were previously believed to be playing Tom and Alice, but they moved on.
