According to Variety, Pitch Perfect series star Rebel Wilson is in talks with MGM to star in a remake of the 1988 comedy classic Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, itself a remake of 1964 Marlon Brando/David Niven vehicle Bedtime Story. Learn more about the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake below!
Directed by Frank Oz, the 1988 film starred Steve Martin as a low class con artist who makes a bet with a high class confidence man played by Michael Caine to see who can swindle an heiress out of $50,000 (and sex) first. It later was adapted into a successful stage musical also titled “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” in 2005.
The new version will update the story by putting the focus on two lady cons attempting to get money from a rich tech prodigy. No word yet on who may star opposite Wilson, who is also slated to appear in a remake of Private Benjamin.
Roger Birnbaum of Pin High Productions and Wilson are producing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with Jac Schaeffer (The Shower) penning the screenplay.
