Sony Pictures and District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp are reuniting on Elysium, his new sci-fi film that will star Sharlto Copley, Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.
“I literally could not be happier,” Blomkamp said, “I have a brilliant relationship with Sony. I loved them during ‘District 9,’ they 100% get this film and they get me. ‘Elysium’ is in very good hands.”
The film is set 100 years in the future on another planet and is filled with many sociopolitical ideas wrapped up inside a Hollywood action film. Syd Mead (Blade Runner) will design the sets.
Elysium is scheduled to start shooting in July in Vancouver and will then move to Mexico City in the fall. The studio is targeting a 2012 holiday release.
After Elysium, Blomkamp is expected to start filming Chappie, another original film he’s written.
