Steven Berkoff, David Dencik and Joely Richardson have all been cast in David Fincher’s re-adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in unspecified roles, according to an SvD article (per The Playlist).
Fincher also tells the Swedish outlet that he doesn’t consider his version a remake and that, in the same way that the Swedish film aped American style to adapt the book, he hopes to play up Swedish film conventions, describing his take as a Swedish version of Chinatown.
Currently shooting on location in Sweden, the Columbia Pictures adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s book stars Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer.
The novel describes the mystery surrounding the long-unsolved disappearance of an heiress. A journalist recently dinged by a libel case and a young female hacker try to resolve it, stirring up bundles of personal and industrial corruption along the way.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is scheduled for a December 21, 2011 release.
