James Franco has plans to develop an adaptation of The Adderall Diaries, the 2009 “true crime memoir” of Stephen Elliott, reports Variety.
The non-linear text begins as a real-life investigation into the 2007 murder trial of Hans Reiser, accused of killing his wife, and the ensuing confession of his friend Sean Sturgeon (who, though he admits to several other murders, does not take responsibility for that specific murder). Throughout the course of the book, the experimental story turns into a twisted autobiography of Elliott’s own life, framed against the literary investigation.
Franco will develop the project as a producer and, the article suggests, could very well star.
