Ophelia Lovibond has officially joined the cast of Mr. Popper’s Penguins, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Lovibond will join the cast alongside Jim Carrey, who plays Mr. Popper, a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers. When one of them responds with a gift of one dozen penguins, Popper is left with the challenge of dealing with the Arctic birds. Soon he opens a stage act called Popper’s Performing Penguins and goes on tour, creating mayhem at every stop.
Lovibond will play a personal assistant to Popper. The recently announced Carla Gugino role has also been confirmed to be that of Mrs. Popper, Carrey’s character’s wife.
Best known for her appearance in the young John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy, Lovibond will make the move to American films with Ivan Reitman’s No Strings and is rumored to be on the short list for playing the female lead in the upcoming reboot of Spider-Man.
