Eli Roth is on a roll. After yesterday’s report that he will direct Bruce Willis in MGM’s Death Wish remake, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that he is teaming with another A-lister, funnyman Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber To, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) for the IDW comic book adaptation Aleister Arcane.
The horror story revolves around the title Svengoolie-esque late-night TV horror show host whose gory skits have him put on trial, which breaks his spirit and sends him to the grave. However, before he dies he puts a curse on the town that only a group of kids can lift.
Steve Niles wrote and Breehn Burns illustrated the 2004 graphic novel, which you can purchase here. Screenwriter Jon Croker (The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death) will pen the screenplay adaptation for DreamWorks Pictures. Carrey, who is no stranger to comic book adaptations (Kick-Ass 2, Batman Forever, The Mask), will star in and also executive produce Aleister Arcane, with Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing alongside Michael Aguilar.
Currently going out of his studio comedy safety net, Carrey will next be seen in a pair of edgy indie movies, including The Bad Batch from director Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home at Night) and the thriller True Crimes opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg.
