The MPAA has announced that the Independence Day: Resurgence and Suicide Squad ratings are both PG-13. 20th Century Fox’s “Resurgence” (June 24) received the PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and destruction, and for some language, while Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad (August 5) got PG-13 for sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language.

LAIKA and Focus Features’ Kubo and the Two Strings (August 19), meanwhile, received a PG rating for thematic elements, scary images, action and peril.

Speaking of scary, Sony’s The Shallows (June 29) received a PG-13 rating for bloody images, intense sequences of peril, and brief strong language. The rating for Universal’s Ouija follow-up even revealed the title. The film will be called Ouija: Origin of Evil (October 21) and carry a PG-13 rating for disturbing images, terror and thematic elements.
